Hi guys,
I just had a friend who's recently got in to the hobby of keepin discus return from penang.. he visited a lotta discus farms down there and was informed that u are supposed to add "CLAMPS" to the food for increased fertility.... does any one have any idea what "Clamps" are?? .. i am also facing a lotta fertility problems.. like .. in no its hard to believe.. 2 (Two) hatchlings from a batch of 250 eggs...!!!! HELP!

Do you mean CLAMS? As in salt water shellfish?

Your welcome Neil, and welcome to Simply. Lots of good people and good information here. As for Clams, I would think that they would be fine to add to your feeding regimen. As for fertility, well, who knows? I had a big spawn where only 3 babies hatched and went freeswimming. It wasn't a matter of fertility as much as a matter of my water being too hard. I lowered the tds with RO water and the next spawn was almost 100% hatch rate. HTH :D

what if i say "i am using RO mixed with tap water 80:20 %" still i m facing the same problem! Out of 350-400 eggs only 25 hatch!!!!

Even i hav heard abt 'CLAMS' but dont know what is it! and from where i will get it!!!!!!!

Will tell u where to get the clams.. it is with most of the fish vendors in mumbai.. they keep clams in buckets its full of shells... the part inside the shells is wat we are supposed to add!! go to any fish market ask them for something called "SHIPLI" i think thats as close as i can remember it!! and try turnips too!!

We call them cockles here in Aussie. Oysters should work just as good. They do for me ;). Just joking ;D. But their reputation precedes them.
