I just acquired (free!!) an acrylic 55g tank that was used for salt previously.
Someone in passing mentioned I should re-caulk it. Um, so how exactly is that done? Do I actually tanke the thing apart peice by peice, scrape of the old caulk and put it back together with new? Cause I'm really not sure I'm into that. Or can I just use aquarium silicon to go over all the joints and seams?
Thanks, Carolyn

sunspark;
I'm not exactly sure what you are referring to = "CAULKING" .[??].
All acrylic units, I have ever seen, use a "special cement" to "GLUE" the pieces together. This cement actually melts [melds] the the acrylic together. Not something you can dissasemble..... MPE.
Are you suggesting that this unit has been siliconed together.??.
OR - are you saying a "bead" of silicine has been applied over the "GLUED" seams. ??
Could you please elaborate.
Smokey
ps - have you filled the unit with water?
did it leak?

Agree with Smokey! Silicon and acrylic do not hold together that well. It anything, its refering to the special glue/cement that Smokey mentions! ;)
Lucky to get a free 55G tank though! ;)

You can always run another bead of acrylic glue along the seams just to be sure.
