DIY Sponge filters

Ok I have figured out how to make the filters, but I had a question about the sponge material. I bought some Poly sponge ( coushion sponge for like chairs and couch seating) Does this type release any bad chems into the water?? or is it safe to use??

Depends if its colored or not! If is it white, its fine. I rinse it in tap before using. Been using it for over a year now with no side effects. ;)

Also find out if it has been treated with any anti bacterial or anti gungal products.
