Greetings all....
Am setting up some 29's.....but also another large tank 55-125 g. I currently have a tetratec pf500 in my 90g. Any suggestions on a good filter, one preferred by all you pros? Again, been outta the loop a few yrs....I'm sure you all remember the carbon/cotton filters....hehe. What a mess those were.

Again would like to thank you all for having such a great site and wealth of info. Three days here, and I think I've only covered about 6% of your site lol.

Things I have learned....
LSF told me weekly water changes 25%-Switched to daily 25%
LSF told me 80 degree tank-switched to 86
Found out those white things my discus spit up are probably tapeworms...medication on the way
Had no clue about salt in the aquarium....purchasing some monday.

Anyway, my discus are already twice as purty as before, so I know they thank ya:)

HI Robin,
My personal experience and from the suggestions that I have received from many of the long time Discus keepers is that Aquaclear Filters are amog the best. I have used Whispers, Fluval, Emporers and who knows what else but the AC are by far the easiest to maintain and do a tremendous job. Just the filter box and double up on the foam filter block... no carbon (unless removing meds). Add a pre-filter and some of us also like to supplement with a sponge filter.
I am told that wet dry filters are great but I have never used them so can't comment.

I second what bikhu said. If your going to set-up a 125 gal. or similar, get a couple Hydro V sponges and something along the lines of the Aquaclear, or Penguin and you should be looking good.

Thanks Howie and Bikhu, and you are right, did some research on Aquaclear, looks like just the ticket, and fits the budget...lol:)

Aquaclear or Penguin filters are my recommendation.

Filters for many tanks and the expense of the electric bill add up quick. If you are going to have multiple tanks in the same room consider a larger airblower and sponge filters only. I have (1) 29g, (3) 55g and (2) 40g tanks on one air system. Each tank has (2) Hydro V sponges (the 29 has 1) and on occassion I will use an inside box filter for mechanical and/or chemical filtration. No outside filters in this setup and only 1 electrical device running.
I use a wet/dry and an emporer 400 on my 75g. I would definately use a wet/dry on 125g tank.

How big is your air pump David?

Robin,
I use a Linear LPH 26. It lets you run about 20 airlines at one time. There are different makes and models with different outputs and prices so it would make sense to do a little shopping around.
