Oh Man -- My Hubby took Cabinet Making - Built our first kitchen and so on - Looks Like something he'd over do-- LOL!! Too bad he has got a bad back now!

Yeah 4 supports in the middle was probably overkill. I put on the sides and bottom today. Im getting the doors put on tomorrow so it should almost be done by then. Once I get them put on I have to add the corner trim and trim on the top and bottom.

Nice wood work! Keep us posted. Oh, btw if I remember correctly, you were asking about keeping discus in the garage right?

FloridaFishGuy
08-01-2004, 11:13 AM
Yes, I did want to keep it in my garage but my mom said I wasnt allowed so its going in the house.

I finished putting plywood on my front canopy piece. After I get the back piece covered I will hinge them together and put molding around them to hide the dark oak color of the tank trim.

Heres another thing I bought at Lowes today to help me cut the plywood. Its probably not the nicest jig saw but it was cheap and it does the job well.

Looks like you are close to finishing. Are you planing to stain the wood or just apply a clear coat? I was asking about you keeping the fish in the garage because when I was in Miami, I stopped by Wattley's and boy was it hot! The temperture there must have been in the upper 90's. In any case, good luck putting everything together.

I plan to add a light stain to darken it up a little bit but not to much. I still wouldnt mind keeping tanks in the garage but I will have to see how hot the water gets compared to the outside temperature.

Front with the canopy on. The canopy is not fully finished because I still need to add the hinge and trim. The front of the stand is also not finshed because the holes for the doors are not cut but the doors are made.

Heres the front with the doors open. BTW if your wondering the spots are something to do with the camera and there not on the stand.

Wow, I have to say that stand is awesome. If you put that much work into everything you do, I am sure that you will not have any problems with the fish.

I recently built a stand out of cinder blocks with 3/4 inch plywood on top. To make it look presentable I covered it in black rip stop nylon. I am just telling you this so that you can take your tank building to the next level :P

Heres a picture of the Stand, Tank, and Canopy. Im pretty much finished. All I need to do is add the trim on the canopy so you cant see the dark oak color.

Actully she thinks it will be rather ugly. She dosnt seem very fond of a barebottom tank. Im going to try to convince them to let me get 2 more 55g tanks in the garage where I can keep my Discus I get from Ryan I want to resell. Then I will be able to make the tank in the living room a wonderful fully planted tank.

Here are some pictures of my w/c system. This is the outlet for my washer were I put a Y with valves. I am able to turn the water on/off when I need to fill up the storage container.

This is the water storage container. It is a little on organized right now but when I figure out how to make everything stationary I will look better.

The stand and hood look great. I am looking to build a similar stand and hood for an 85 gallon tank. Any chance you could post your plans with a description of material types and grades etc.
