Got tired of my male being so aggressive with his mate (don't spawn anymore). Chases her away from food most of the time and she has to "sneak" back to eat. Spends most of her time behind plants. So yesterday I put in a tank divider. 24 hours later...he stays by the divider looking at her and SHE is planted by the divider, staring adoringly at him. Has not gone to hide ONCE since I put the divider in. Battered wife syndrome or what????

It sounds like he is getting annoyed by her. I have had this happen to me with none productive pairs. I found that putting them back into a community tank with other fish resolves there social issues. And alot of times it induces that same pair to spawn a few days later. Leave the divider in for a few more days and then take it away. If he is still pushing her around, put the divider back and leave it like that for a week or 2. If he is still pushing her around, then the best option would be to place them both into a tank with other adult discus as this will defray the aggression.

I got the same experience at this moment with my two rose reds, only in my case its the female what did the chasing and not letting the male get to the food.
So I to put in a divider this morning and bugger me dead the male now trys to get to the female ???and they do the paring rituel each on their side of the divider figures heyyy.

lol, yes Janice I still have plenty of discus for sale. Email me when you want to come over ;).

tomdisk- That happens quite frequently. Dividing a good pair that hasnt spawned in a while can get them to spawn. I divided a pair once in the morning and by night she was making a pass at the divider!
