quarantine procedure please

If I want to quarantine new fish, plecos or discus, corys, what do I do to the quarantine tank? Is it neccessary to add medicine or just observe the new fish for awile?

At my house new arrivals are kept in the kitchen with their own storage water, nets, siphon hoses, etc. I observe the fish and only medicate if needed. I wash my hands before going to the other tanks for six weeks.
