New Discus

Hi, I just got 3 Discus on Saturday night. They appear to be acting rather shy. I do have driftwood in the tank. When they are fed, they let the food come to the bottom and then eat. If I watch from a distance, they swim all over the tank. When anyone approaches, they hide. I want to get them eating better, they are about 3 1/2 inches. Thanks.

Hi Kevin,

It will take some time for them to get acclimated to their new surroundings and you. They should come around in a few days.

just three and having hiding places..it will take them a bit of time. congrats on your new fish..
just work around them alot..doing your wcs etc..and they will come around. at least you know their swimming etc while your not watching. so they sound healthy and happy enough.

perfectly normal for them to let the food go to the bottom and pick at it, sounds like they will do fine,as long as they don't go dark and stop eating all together.

It's hard for me to tell how much they are eating. They are quite active, I've noticed some chasing. They are all the same size. I tried to get some beefheart but it seems to be hard to get around here.

Try the ethnic stores, and call the butcher, don't just look in the case. They may need to order it for you.
