Hi,

I just thought I would post the progress of my new tank's stand! This is just a basic stand that I've been building. Hopefully its strong enough. (Actually it could probably hold up a deck)

Major Problems:
NEVER EVER get Home Depot or Rona to cut your wood. It took me twice as long to build the stand due to mistakes made by their employees. The reason for the pink insulation was because two of the vertical beams were cut 3mm shorter then the other. Now I have to find some plastic striping 2inches wide to hide this insulation. By the way, anyone know where I can get any?

Almost every piece they cut ended up being slightly off. Cut the wood yourself!!!!

Note: Making this cost way more then buying a stand. Only if you are looking for a really cheap stand would I recommend building it yourself.

4x4's? Forget the deck, that'll hold up your house!!!

Just curious, how did you attach the 4x4's? Are you concerned about latteral movement? Or did you place additional support I didn't see? Or does the back piece take care of that?

Nice job!!!!!!!!

lol,

yep it probably would!

2 inch screws attach the 3/4inch pine to the 4x4s. So the sides, back and top prevent any movement whatsoever. (There are at least 20 screws in the top alone) All my weight couldn't make it budge. lol

It might be a bit excessively strong for only a 120g but I really didn't want to take any chances.

PS Thanks FloridaFishGuy

Talk about cost effective and simplicity at its best! The way you used the 4x4's and covered them up is a fabulous idea! Looks really good! Great job! ;)

Beautiful stand! Built like a-brick-outhouse.

Take pride - you did it your self.

Hi Slevytam,
I was wondering why you chose to extend the plywood on top pass the support of 4x4 underneath. Most of the weight of the tank is usually underneath the rim or moulding of the tank. If you want lateral support in any structure, just create triangles in your structure.

It looks great though.

Honestly,

It was completely asthetics. I really liked the look of a base that was a bit smaller then the tank itself. The top piece is 3/4 inch so I don't think I will have any problems with supporting the weight this way. It should displace to the vertical beams.

Thanks!

Stand looks great! had to chuckle though, I have a 180 gal with a custom made oak stand and it's nowhere near as bulky... I mean, 4 x 4 's??? WOW. If you have a tornado, hurricane, or earthquake.... run and get under the tank... :)

Nice work
