So here I am starting a new mini setup processing RO water getting it ready to pump in to the tanks. I know the new system is not completely cycled so I add a product called Amquel+... it is supposed to remove nitrates, nitrites, ammonia and chlorine....
I had just measured my precious aged RO mix water at 102ppm using a TDS meter... After adding the recommended dosage of Amquel+ which is 1 capful for every ten gallons I decided to retest and to my surprise... my precious... my beautiful precious aged RO was now 523ppm!
AMQUEL YOU SUCK!
Sorry... Just takes so long to get and mix perfect water...

Something wrong with your measurements, Cesar. I don't get anything like that.

Does it say "Amquell plus buffers" on the label?

I understood that Amquel Plus had buffers to prevent the pH crash that some had when using regular Amquel. Those buffers will be like adding baking soda or similar to the water.

Hi all,
I wonder if Amquel is Sodium Bisulfate? Anyone have the chemical makeup of this product?

If you click the link at the bottom of the page I linked, it takes you to some detailed info on Amquel, but not Amquel Plus. There ought to be a similar page for the plus version, I'd think.

. . . and remember you can have sky high tds and very soft water. Tds is not the same as hardness or GH. Tds measures everything disolved in the water. You have removed minerals. IF this rise in tds is from a something like salt your eggs will hatch just fine even if the tds is 400.

Carol has a good point, what is the pH of the water? the KH?

Willie is right, I just added AmQuil+ to 10 gls of my aged water, while circulating, at 1tsp P/10gl and it went from 218ppm to 244ppm. The water also allready had 1tsp RO Right and 3/8 tsp PH Stable in it. Kaceyo

TDS is total dissolved solids, you add more solids, you’ll get a higher TDS.
