a friend of mine uses this product and swears by it. he says it is a food that contains a de worming med in it. does any else use it and if you do, does it work? i am personally very wary of white crane foods as i have been told by many people in the past they they contains hormones. they may be wrong but i have still tended to stear away from them. i am however very interested in a monthly deworming food. i have ordered a small portion of the White Crane Discus Monthly from a lfs but would love to hear a bit more about it first.
any comments or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

I know that most asian's preach deworming monthly. I have personally dewormed monthly numerous times on a batch of fry and I cant argue that it does help with appetite and growth. The down fall I see in deworming with say metro every month is that the flagellates(sp?) may build a resistance to it. Instead, what I have done in the past is do metro one month, prazi another month and finally pancur (fenbendazole) in the 3rd month and just repeat that cycle. Then again, if the fish tanks are kept constantly clean and filters frequently cleaned AND no live foods are fed, then there may not even be a need for deworming. I guess it is up to personal choice/opinion on weather or not to deworm. As for the White Crane dewormer, I am not sure if it will be as effective as straight metro. I do know that White Crane puts CR6 and I think CR7 and another one for different colors of fish. I dont think any of the CR hormones are in the dewormer. But then again, I have never had any experience with White Crane and I am only saying what I know about them from people posting on the asian forums. HTH

Ididn't know you coul'd use metro or prazi for deworming. In one of my quetions about Hex treatment I was asked if I had dewormed by people who knew I was using metro as treatment. Could someone explain this to me? Don't want to be a newbe forever. Thanx, Kaceyo

hi/ prazziquantel is good for tapeworms and body and gill fluke treatment. i usually prazzi my youngsters when i get them in case of tapeworm. then once a year. i dont feed live food and i never usually see tapeworms in my fish. best place to get prazzi in teh usa is from barry illman. he has a stickied link in medication and disease section . he will mail it straight out to you. prazzi is not for hex. metro is. and that..you would use if you are seeing white poo and their spitting their food out . usually after times of stress or the smallest one. first line of action is to crank the heat up and see if you can get them eating and up the water changes. metro you can get at some online stores. also seachem sells straight metro in tubes at some lfs.
i myself wouldnt deworm monthly as a regular routine. id say maybe every six months at the most .
i stick to the saying if its not broke..dont fix. why medicated routinely if they are healthy happy and well . and come up smiling at you when you come to them.

Most of the Asian dewormers do not list the content on the container. I have a friend who has access of lab equipments for toxicology. He was testing all medication available from Asia for his discus. He was able to find the H1 - H7 of most dewormers are more or less the combination of 4 meds. Metro, Prizi, Fluben. and Lavamisol??sp.. with balance salt or espsom salt.

Thanks April and Veela. Looking at my box of Jungle Parasite clear I see it has The first three meds Veela mentions and then Acriflavine in place of Lavamisol. I need to have some prazi on hand for my 1st aid kit (right?) so I'll check out Berry Illman. Thanx again, Kacey

You dont HAVE to have it, but it always nice to have on hand. Prazi can be rather expensive though, which is why I reccommend not buying any unless/until it is needed.

i'm pretty sure that that is the case with this particular food/med. i was told that it didn't list the ingredients so i was extremely causious about using it.
