It is somewhat hard for me to fathom, but only two weeks after receiving my new Discus from Cary, they have already begun breeding. The magic moment happened Sat. Night (Oct. 2) around 8:00 pm or so. The parents are guarding the eggs and so forth in the picture below.

I think they picked a nice spot too as it is out of the way of atraffic, and has excellent circulation, including the exhaust from the UV Sterilizer. I think I will sit this one out and let nature take it's course. I do have a nice 10 gallon tank with aged water on the side if ever needed.

Hey Frank... congratulations.
To be honest I am not surprised. When Cary says that he is selling breeders he means exaclty that. As in all of his business he accurately represents his product and himself.
Good luck with the new fry. Enjoy them!
Peace,
peter

That's the interesting thing. I didn't specifically order a breeder pair. I just got some really, really prime fish. His fish are outstandingly prime.

Frank,not for nuttin,but a 10 is too small for a breeder pair...set up a 20 gal.

Mench,

All fish are currently in a 125 gallon tank. I was musing that I could put the fry in the 10 and raise them artificially if the need should arise. I would not advise anyone to keep breeding discus in any less than a 40...

Not too surprizing, the parents ate or otherwise disposed of all the remaining eggs, before anything happened. Having read a number of articles on this, I am not surprised. What does amaze me though is that they are doing the mating dance/quiver ritual again and have selected a new spot, which they are cleaning. I told my wife to call me if they lay eggs since I am out of town. What amazed her in describing this tonight was the incredible shades of Blue that the fish are flashing during this whole process. She notes that it seems to excite other fish that are in the tank as well.

I am very encouraged, as it appears that I have a nice breeder pair going, albeit an inexperienced one.

Karen,

These are Blue Heaven Turq. Not sure what the main differences are between them and the Blue Diamond but nice fish for sure.
