I always see posts thanking breeders for there beautiful fish and great service, and these posts are well deserved. But one person that I feel deserves our thanks is The Brewmaster.
Al is the first person I interacted with on this site when I started thinking of discus but was hesitant because of there reputation of being difficult to keep. His reputation as a great guy reached, and was relayed to me from a distant cichlid site. After a few e-mails, my mind was set at ease, and I was hooked. Al is always there behind the scenes of this site making sure that it is a great place to come and learn about these wonderful fish. But more than that, he's always there in an emergency or not, with great advice and insight. He generously organizes local meetings and then invites us into his home to see his amazing set-up, meet his wonderful family, and yes, a chance to take some fish home. I know I'm not saying anything new to those who have been here a while. We know he truly is the salt of the earth (and aquarium @ 1Tblsp/10G ;D). But the site has grown tremendously and there are allot of new faces.
What prompted this you say..... Thursday morning I ordered a t-shirt....and before I could close the Paypal window..I had an e-mail from Al saying hello, letting me know what's going on at home and that my shirt was in the mail. Well I'll be wearing my t-shirt today....and as with everything Al does....It looks great! :thumbsup:

It does kind of seem like we don't hear much about Al,unless someone is having trouble on the boards,but you are right..Al does a LOT of things that the rest of the boards don't hear about....I know I for one have had Al's helping hand offered to me,more than once...
I wish I have some of his energy...run the boards...keep up with a huge fish room...do all the things for work and keep the family thing running smoothly...lots tof things to do in a 24 hr day...
So Al...even though ya don't hear it a lot...THANKS for all your effort and help and for just being a friend...

I couldn't agree more. Al is so very passionate about this hobby and hellping to make it accessible to anyone who wishes to invest the time. I think of Al as my mentor and even more than that .. a really good friend.

As the chief cook and bottle washer Al sets the tone for this site. He had a vision for SimplyDiscus as a family friendly, beginner friendly, discus information site. Some have complained when posts were moved or edited, but in reality the guidelines for this site have more to do with good manners than censorship.

You can not imagine the time and effort Al has put into Simply Discus. We've been here two and a half years and counting. All the other discus sites I've been on have splintered to form new boards. While we have lost a few members here and there Simply Discus has withstood the test of time.

I was so happy when Al was able to take over wilddiscus.com and my fish and add them to his own already extensive set-up, as he is one of the very few guys I know who does discus with a solid scientific background coupled with integrity .
I am glad to see him get some recognition for all that he does for the Discus hobby. Despite havng a very busy home life with a family and young children he still manages makes time for helping out all of us. I have no doubt that as he gets his tanks etc completed he will become one of the premier breeders in N.America.
His home-brews are also a thing of beauty

This man has touched my heart- when I was having a problem and he was busy running back and forth moving his new tanks and fish in - He offered to come to my home and help me out.
I can't wait to have some extra $ and tank space to go check out his fish- Only an hour from me-he he he!~~

I never ever thought in my life that I will be keeping discus as I'm a goldfish nuts and I have goldfish everywhere but because of this website now I'm drooooooling all over for discus and looking to add all kind of strains to my collection. But it's all FUN...thanks Al for bringing simplydiscus.com to what it is today. Keep up the good works.
