I have a light that no longer turns on when the power button is pressed. The bulb is good and I tried replacing the starter and that didn't help either.

After tinkering with it I found that if I turn on the light with the starter in and then remove the starter then the light turns on and stays on. This is encouraging but would still be inconvenient if I had to do it all the time. I haven't take the light apart yet I thought I'd post and see if anyone had any ideas as to how to fix it.

These lights are friggin' expensive so I'd like to avoid buying a new one if at all possible.

thanks!
Ryan

What kind of light? Must be the petshop kind! I threw mine out when I started having the same problem. Another problem I had was then finding the right size replacement tube also. Now I have a Home Depot 2' fluorescent. Much better! ;)

Starter can be the problem! Also old tube.

yeah, it's a pet store light. :-\

I would still like to fix it if at all possible. I don't want to buy anything new right now if I can help it. I'm cheap!

did you try replacing the lamp
a bad lamp can be hard to start....by removing the starter in the on position can be causing enough arc to ignite

What size fixture, I have the guts out of 2x All Glass Fixtures (1x15 Watt and 2x 24 Watt) if you need them.
