Folks,
I'd like to see who breeds F1,F2 Wild Brown Discus that don't have excessive coloring (red base, blue straitions, etc...). I guess most of you would say I'm looking for 'boring' Discus.

I like the Discus that appears on the Discus Anatomy Poster that is available from a member of this site.:

Hi Peter,
First a little correction...if they are F1 or F2 then they are no longer wilds! ;) :)

Next.. I'll share my experinece with Browns as I have gotten several batches in over the past year.. They change color alot .. much depends on where they were collected and what you feed. Most will get red in the anal fins and somewhat in the body. But if you are looking for Browns like the one in that poster..those are your basic Brown....one of the nicest shaped wilds,IMO.... I have gotten in groups of golden yellow browns and had some stay unchanged, others turned reddish.. and a even a few turned copper, with nice face patterns.

Not many focus on the browns any more, but they used to be very important in breeding programs. I have a few pairs I am working with as pure browns and crosses to domestics. Not much in the way of fry yet though.

that's true regarding the F1/F2.

Guess what I meant was F1 Offspring (which would be from the original F0 wild parents) or even F2 (which would definitely be considered domestic, as their parents would have never seen anything beyond their 4 glass/acrylic walls) if folks deemed the F1's to be too precious to part with.

By getting F1's I could raise them as juveniles, instead of importing wild adults. I though Jeffrey Doty still kept browns around?

Nice discus David,
I have 40 BD X Belem Brown at 1 inch, that would appear to be wildones concerning strength and size acceleration.
Are you breeding for reddness.....................................?

Lee,

Out of convenience, I feed TB, Frozen Blood Worm and Beef Heart. I am trying to breed for form not color. Cause I think, there are plenty of nice red coloration fish out there...

Tanx, guys. People in my country don't like this kind of colored fish. They thought that it's kinda boring, without striations and so on. They prefer those elaborated fish with lots of lines and with bright colors. Nah..... I love my fish just the way they are .I go for shape, not color........

Tanx, wildthing. I really pamper them with lots of WC during young. Even now, at 11 mths, I still give them daily 100% WC. I really put in much effort to get my discus as perfectly shaped as ever. Glad you like it.............

a discus can have the most beautiful colors but be ugly because of bad shape..but imo a discus with a good shape and eyes is never ugly no matter how it is marked.
