Hi, I have a 72g bowfront with 2 40w sun glo bulbs. the lights give more of a plain white light and i want florescent bulbs that give more of a blue light. When i purchased the tank i made petco change out the bulbs cuz the ones they had in their already had been on for quite some time. I like the blue color flourescent lights more cuz i think it makes the water n fish look more attractive than this bright white light i have now. Can anyone tell me a brand of bulb to buy that will satisfy me? thanx

Hey Paintball,

I use nothing but 50/50 bulbs... best of both worlds :) kind of subdued as well and the fish appreciate that (yes, they've told me that.. lol )

50% sunlight, 50% actinic blue

Try Coral Life. You can look up lighting at That Fish Place or Pet Solutions. Hope this helps.

Try a fluorescent lamp with higher colour temprature. Anything over 6000K will provide a bluer light. Those with CT less than 5000K appear warm because of the high red content. Addition of an Actinic lamp is a good idea.

Hey Paint... the name of the 50/50 bulb is .... 50/50 ... that's it. most of the major manufacterers make them.. you can get them with or without built in reflectors.. I usually buy without.

they contain two different phosphors so they produce both colors at the same time in one bulb..

I have one more question regarding tank lights. If i used 1 of my 40w sun glo bulbs and bought a coral life 100% actinic blue bulb will this have the same effect as 50/50 bulbs? thanks

i was about to ask the same question :)

i have a dual strip fixture. not using live plants so i don't need major wattage but i was thinking doing one 6500K and one antic. would that be a preferred setup over 2 50/50 bulbs?
