A friend is giving me a new unused 55gal show tank with black background. He has no use for it, and it's been boxed in his garage for 2 years. It's a great tank, except that I don't like the black background.

Is there a way to change the black background of an acrylic tank? Is there any way of removing it or painting the inside with nontoxic paint? Suggestions?
Thanks,
Brigitte

Brigitte, check to see if it is a black piece of Plexi...if it is you can go to a sign shop and get any color vinyl that ya want.Just cut to size and install in the inside of the tank....If it is just painted you may have a bit of a problem..I use a razor blade on my painted tanks to scrape the paint off..you can't do that on a plastic tank,it will scratch.not sure if paint remover will hurt the plastic...
Good luck

Yes, I agree with Mench. But make sure the vinyl inside the tank is siliconed.
