I just finished painting my tanks and in resetting them up one was running at 89F. The fish in that tank seemed to lose their appetite. Is that what happens at elevated temps? I've sinced lowered the temp back to 85F. All my Ebos seem to be out of calibration at this point 3+ years old, so getting the temp right is takes some playing around.

Wow, that seems pretty high. I have jacked the temp in my hospital tanks around there but only when treating with Metro or other deases. I had a friend whos heater totally buzzed out on him and put the temp in the mid 90's and when he woke up all his fish died. Discus can tolerate high temps compared to others but 89 is a wee bit too high as a normal temp. I would keep an eye on your heater, all my ebos are going on four to five years and there are doing fine.HTH

I usually keep the temp in my tanks in the area of 87/88 degrees as the fish seem to prefer this over 84/86... for metro treatments the water should be up in the 92/93 range for full effectiveness.
The ebo's supposedly have a reset button to recalibrate, but I'll be darned if I know how it's supposed to work :( The pamphlets that come with them don't even mention it

Hey Jim,
The calibration mechanism is on the top of the heater. It is blue on the older Ebo's and I believe it's black on the newer Eheim ones. It needs to be pulled out with a pair of pliers or by use of a screwdriver in order to calibrate.
I never had a problem with temperature calibration on the Ebo's until I got ahold of some of the new ones. I was medicating some fish and wanted to elevate the temperature. The new Ebo's wouldn't even turn on if I adjusted them to 93.

Hey Ryan,
Thanks for the info :) but.. errr.. what do you do after you pull out the little button  LOL Actually, I've never had need to use it, but was really curious... now I know the first step :D
Thanks buddy :)

The way it was explained to me by the guy at Ebo...
You pull the button out. It actually pops up about a quarter of an inch or so. The easiest way to do this is with a pair of scissors or a screwdriver. Leave the glass submerged in your tank water for about 15 minutes. Look at your thermometer and set the temperature of your Ebo to what it says. This should calibrate it. Honestly, I've had limited success.
IME these new ones work fine until you get above about 86 degrees and then they just don't seem to want to turn on. :(

I find that my ebo's run hotter than the temp setting. Somewhere around 4-6 degrees. Also, I'm not sure how your fishes appetite went away with the hotter temp. My fish get down on some food with the higher temps :)
