I asked a while back about my little blue discus and I got several responses as that it might be a cobalt. I notice in most cobalt, there are striations in the face. My discus has none. Here is a pic after 2 months. Do you think it's a cobalt still? Thanks

Time will tell. Presently, you can see a bar at the base of the tail and at the eye.

Thanks for all the great comments. I really do take care of my fish. I change 50% of my tank water daily. They get fed small meals about 4-5 times a day. I keep my temp at around 86. So far so good. I think I've had quite a bit of luck along with my hard work. I wish you the best of luck with your discus and I will post more pics of my fish in the future. :)

the issue with my fish being a cobalt, is that he only has a very faint bar through his eye and tail. He at no time gets stress bars anywhere (his body is solid with no bars always). I do have a small red turq in one of the pictures but they are not from the same batch of fish. Every picture I've seen of a cobalt, the cobalt has bars mine have none in the body, none. Now I've seen some solid blues with a small evidence of striations in the fin that are not cobalts. Maybe he is a mut????

;) Muts are sometimes make the best pets to have. He does look like a mix - still just as cute as any "purebreed". Besides with the exeption of wilds wouldnt all other discus be mutts?
April, got him from AL at RMD. 5 out of my 6 are Rocky Mountain Discus. I love the fact he is a sponser here, I was not a member though when I ordered them last fall, was actually givin the link to Simply from a friend on another forum. I highly reccomend RMD, Al's fish are great.
I am planning to move a pair from my grow-out and then I have got to get some of those AWESOME super-reds from him next. :)

yeah, I'm quite fond of him. He is the boss of the tank. I know he should be even larger but I'm limited on tank sizes. I'll try to get him to Engalnd with me if possible. He was one of my first. His brother is way smaller and I don't think he will be getting much bigger. Thanks April for the comments. ;)

the cobalts who are almost black..they are so blue..in the lfs..arent feeling very happy..they go dark like that when stressed. if they are smiling and happy..they should be shiny and light and clear like the one in the pic.
this little blue cobalt will get even more sheen and more solid yet.
