How do they jump over the divider? Do you have a lid on your tank? Is the divider not very high?

the divivder is to the top of the water bout a inch from the top of the tank
no top
the that jumps it gets a at the bottom and and takes off for the top and up and over the divider
my thing is i'm trying to figure out why it wants to get to the other fish they will peck at each other's lips for a min and then they are all rite swim together
when i feed the big one let's the other one eat but it makes it go to the other side of the tank to eat

LOL, sounds like they're in love that's why   and that they want to pair off. Is the one that jumps over a boy? Why do you have them separated?

Try lowering the water level an inch or two.

i got them a 9 days ago and i seperated them cause i did not want them to bully each other i just and every thing i have read states that it is not good to have just 2 in a tank. As soon as i am sure the are healthy i'm going to out them in with the rest of my fish. i don't know what it looks lik when they pair off so i took it as bullying andd keep them seperated.i don't know sex one is bigger than the other

thanks for the reply

From the limited experience I've had with the love dances of discus (and cichlids). The shimmy side by side, lip locking and swimming next to each other with their heads tilted is a sign of a possible pair bond. If it was me I'd take the divider out completely and just keep an eye out that the bigger one doesn't get really agressive with the smaller, but I have a sneaking suspicion it won't ;). Sounds like he/she really wants to be around the other. The other comments to separate them more may cause more injury if he/she still tries to get over and is unsuccessful (ending up on the floor or injured).

It's been years, but sounds like cichlid love to me. And they may want to pair even if they're the same sex, when I was winding down my tanks about 8 years ago, I only had 2 discus left- a pet store rescue Heckel and a last PB from my babies. They went through all the motions, and spawned lots of times- even though they were both female. It was always funny to see them try so hard, and it was all doomed. Oh well they were happy and sassy.
