i use a 300 gpg little giant pump i got at Lowe's takes about 10 min. to pump 50 gal. i don't know if it will hook to you python ..i have a hose just for that..
make sure it isn't for a fountain. just circulate.

Hi Nimo,

Their are many pumps on the market, most of which will work with standard size id tubing.

The model you go with should be rated for the max. floor to ceiling height required, going from your water supply to the tank. I use the the Mag pumps, and they do a great job for returning water quickly. If this is only single use, something along the lines of a Mag7 should work great.

Keep in mind you always have the option of buying a more powerful pump, and using a shutoff valve to cut down on the flow rate if you find it to be too high.

I think the medium Walmart pond pump fits the 1/2 inch inside diameter python hose.

I use a Via Aqua 1300. I had to adapt the fitting on the pump to that of the Python. Remeber you may not want tooo powerful a pump, that is too fast a fill if you have plants or decorations. I refill about 30 galllons per change and it takes about 15 minutes. The pump was about $25.00 through Pet Solutions.
Good luck

Nimo,

A good place to get specs on the various pumps is drsfostersmith.com -
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/NavResults.cfm?N=2004+113041
not the best price there, but they give you all the info you'll need. Howie hit right on the head.. no pun intended :) Max head height is a key consideration since your gph go down as the hose goes up. When I had an elevated 44gal trash can for storage (about 4ft off the floor) I was able to use a penguin 1140 powerhead - would never work from the floor level.

The quiet one 1200 has a max head of 6ft but as the storage bin empties it has a harder and harder time keeping the water moving. Both the Mag5 and Mag7 have 1/2 inputs/outputs that will fit your python and give you plenty of pumping power. Don't forget you'll need to buy fittings to attach the hose to the pump

I looked at the Walmart like Carol suggested and ended up buying one at Lowes because i just decided to make the purchase while I was there, very similar , maybe a couple of dollars higher than Walmarts. Around $60.00.Works Great. I bought an extra braided hose and clamps from Lowes too,

I use a 1/6th hp sump pump to pump from my barrels. Pumps through 50 gallons in no time. Cost around $45 at Lowe's
