I just bought a 180 gallon acrylic tank and it is housing ten discus. The tank came with a Nu clear filter which has a big micron filter. How often should I clean it? and also what is the best way to clean it? Thanks!

I wouldnt buy any other filter for a large aquarium. I bought the micron and the biological canisters and togethor they are keeping the tank nice and clean.
if anyone lives in Arizona there is a fish store called pets inc. that is selling each canister for 50.00 used and they are in good condition.

canister(s), quality, expensive, requires good inline pump
$50/canister good deal

They remind me an awful lot of the Ocean Clear filters from Red Sea Fish pHarm

they do seem to be ocean Clear knock offs. But a little cheaper and larger.

do the canisters have all of the parts or are they gutted? I am looking for the Model 530 25 micron filter. My bio is taken care of with the sump., But I would like clearer water.

I wonder if they would ship?

I think most canisters come with the micron filter. You can also buy them with the biological media already to go in the canister.

The ones over here at the fish store for 50.00 dollars do not have the micron filter in it. But, they do have the pressure gauges on them which is a upgrade. I believe a new micron cartridge runs at about 50.00 also. I dont believe that this fish store would actually ship it. I could ask them for you.

Just got an Ocean Clear on ebay for $66. It will make a very nice polisher after the sump.
