I know it is length X width X height X ???? = tank gallonage?

One way is to multiply length X width X height (all in inches) and then divide the resutling sum by 231 (which will give you the approximate volume in U.S. gallons).

Bee. This link will give the true gallons of water in your tank after calculating what is in your tank like sponges, etc.

Or l x w x h in feet x 7.5.

Why 7.5 because 1 cubic foot holds 7.5 gallons.

. . . . and measure INSIDE dimensions to get better idea of true gallons. Measuring the outside of a tank will "add" several gallons. And as said above gravel, plants and decorations all displace water too.
