Hi, i have been keeping some discus, 4 red melons that are 1.75" and 5 red turqoises that are about 3", they have been in a planted tank. After reading what was on this site and hearing about growth stunt i decided to buy a 300 litre tank and use it as a bare botton discus tank. I was wondering how much % water changes i should do daily and if i should put any plants or driftwood for the discus to hide around as they were in a planted tank and i thought the sudden change might be a bit of a fright. Also, what are good ways to grow discus to big sizes?
Thankyou in advance for all the help :)

Hi Blitz,

Welcome to Simply. :)

There is a significant amount of information that would need to be conveyed to answer all of your questions thoroughly Blitz. I'd peruse these threads when you get a chance. There is some very good information for you to ponder.

As for having cover for your fish, I don't think it will be a huge issue for them to go to barebottom but if it makes you feel better, maybe consider adding a couple of potted plants to your tank.

Thankyou very much for the reply Ryan. :D
Another question i would like to ask is how long would i have to leave the water to cycle with new tank and new filter? I have a tank that i could get some cycled water from, would it be wise to put a bit of this water in the new tank?, and if so how long would i have to wait?
Thanks
Blitz

Blitz,if you already have a cycled tank and you hava a sponge filter in it..it is super easy to start another tank...All I ever do is set up a tank, put about 50 % water from a cycled tank add a cycled sponge filter..fill it up get the temp right then add fish..I do this all the time with no worries...
