I recently been told that caffine free tea placed in the filter is good for fish that come from areas that have soft water like the Amazon. Apparently the tannins and phenolics that the tea releases in the water are good for maintaining the health of the fish.

Has anyone heard of this before and is there any merit to doing this in a Discus or for that fact any Amazon biotype aquarium.

I put peat in my filters and supplement it with blackwater extracts from the LFS. Just do that, I wouldn't risk using some tea bags.

I don't add peat or anything else to the water.
