o.k.-don't know where to put the question, but here goes.
i'm thinking of buying a 75g tank today, when can i put the discus in? i use tap water, change it daily in a 55g. i have 4 sponge filters in the 55g-and a power filter.
so, do i just fill it up, put the sponge filters in and add the discus-or should i wait a few days, or what?
i have sponge filters for a 20g-30g-40g-and an 80g tank in the 55 now. should i just put the 80g sponge filter in the 75g, and then wait a few days?
yes i know to check the ph and all the other goodies-but when can i add them? thanks-Rich

You can fill the tank with clean, tap water, add declor, move in your sponge filters -- and you're ready to go! Once you move in cycled sponges, your tank is immediately cycled. Some people prefer to aerate the water for 24 hours -- to each his own.

o.k.-thanks! another question(seems i'm always full of them) the 80g sponge filter i have in the 55g tank-its been in there about a month-can i just put that in the new 75g and let it work overnight? will that be o.k.? or add it and a power filter for overnight? will be o.k. for the 55g with the 7 discus in it without the power filter overnight?

Add the filter with the fish. There is nothing for the filter to "feed" on in a tank with no fish or ammonia. I let tap water move in the tank for several hours before I add fish because my tap water pH is much lower than my tank water. If the new water is pH stable you can add everything at once.

people aerate their water for 24 hours, or just let it sit, because chlorine added to our water systems is added as a liquid. when it comes into contact with the air, it turns into a gas and evaporates. no need for de-chlor if you do this. good luck!

o.k.folks-the fish are in the tank(actually been in there for a few days). hey-they are looking much better (happier) than they did in the 55g. i posted a thread about them becoming shy. i beleive it was the light bulbs. i bought just generic bulbs and put in. of coarse who knows, they may just like much more room, or the new tank...lol thanks for the help folks!
