I have a female discus which was born on 1st Feb 2005 and has already started breeding. Is this normal for them to start this early and will this early breeding impact on her future growth?

That's normal if she has never been sick a day of her life. She will still grow if she doesn't carry fry too often.
Hormone induced female will lay eggs at 3.5" in 7 months. That will never grow. They usually develope white feces soon after laying and said good bye!!
Hop over to a better place. Some may decide to do that while laying eggs.

I've got PB and SS that are nine months 4 to 5" and spawning. On the other hand my Ocean Greens are close to 2 years old, 6 to 7" in size and no signs of spawning.
I think some types spawn early.

She is a cross between a PB and German Red. What would she be classified as - Brown????

Early breeder or not, she's sure is beautiful! I love her markings and color. Lucky you.

Thanks Barb. Just put her in with the German Red male, so should be interesting to see what she produces.

Jimmy...........funny this topic should arise. The 7 gold snakeskins I picked up from you a couple of months ago are spawning. Two females laid eggs on the full moon a couple of days ago. I am guessing but I think that they are about 8 months now.
