I just bought two new discus last Friday. A brilliant turquoise and a marlboro red, each is about 3". They are Hans discus, bought from a dealer here in MN.

They are doing fine, they are in a 30-gal QT. Eventually I will add them into my 125-gal tank, when QT is over.

The problem is, the BT will not leave the MR alone. It chases the MR quite a bit. I realize I broke the "discus are a schooling fish" rule, but I could only get 2 more discus. I thought 2 would be okay just for a QT period, but this BT will not even let the MR eat.

When I feed them I put food on each side of the tank. There are 2 sponge filters in the tank for hiding spots.

What are my options? A divider?

Thanks!
Audrey

Discus can take a fair amount of banging around without horrible effects. You might tough it out for a few days and see if they adapt. If not, a divider will work.

You really need a few more in that tank. Just one more would be fine.

Audrey. You answered your own question! LOL!
That's what I'd do anyways.
Imo once this starts they don't stop if same conditions remain.
That type of behaviour creates stress which imo creates eaiser way of getting sick.
If you have a cull fish you could throw in there that might work.
But I've done that before and the fish was such a GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR he chased them both. LOL!
I think divider eaiser.

i'd use a couple of these suggestions..... always good to watch a bit. so, watch them a couple days, and see if they don't mellow out a little. your fish probly isn't in any real danger. if it looks like it's getting worse and it may be a danger, separate them.

pat.

The divider is easy, quick and then you have no worries for the rest of the QT period.

I'd go that route.

Thanks to all who replied!

Just wanted to update. I put in a divider shortly after I first posted this thread. Works like a charm. The Marlboro Red took a day or so, but it finally came out of hiding and is eating like a little piggy.

Can't wait til QT is over. I have a small gold diamond in my current stock that I will put in with the QT fish in about a month from now. Then I'll have to wait another 4-6 weeks from there.

I hope my 2 QT fish grow fast, before I add them into my 125-gal with my bigger discus. Will a lot of difference in size create a lot of stress on the smaller guys?

Thanks!
