If you use gravel in your tank, what color is it? We have white because I had seen a picture of a Discus tank that used white gravel and I thought it looked great. With the type of lighting we have, it seems to cause more glare. I'm considering changing the gravel to something darker or mixing a darker gravel in with the white.

What does everyone think in regards to the different colors of gravel
and how it may or may not affect the Discus overall demeanor (i.e. more or less skittish etc...)?

Thanks,
Liz

just preference im sure. most of us dont have gravel. light colours with pigeons is good..as dark colours make their pepper show more.

Try using a non-epoxy coated natural looking gravel. They look good.

I vote for no gravel

You probably got the gravel with that fake color/coating. You should find white natural rocks even though they will not be as white and the fake colored ones. You can also try white sand which will definitely be a nice true white.

I moved all my small discus to a BB 55 gal tank. They're eating better and consuming a lot more than in the graveled tank. I put my 4 big guys in the graveled tank. They eat whatever I give them usually before it has a chance to settle on the bottom. They're doing just fine.

I had white gravel in my oscar tank years ago. The problem I found was that it gets algae on it and then becomes green gravel. Or just looks dirty.
