Hey guys!
I am trying to order my brighter light, and I have no idea what I am doing, par for the course, lol..but does anyone know if the square pin tube lights, can fit into the straight pin , ya know the little slot thingys.....?
Probably no one knows what I am talking about....*******...I am not even sure I know what I am talking about!http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_4.gif...I am sitting here trying to order sooooooo if some one could like get back to me in 30 seconds or less? j/k... I am getting a new heater as well, 2 actually, and two Hydro Sponges ( Thanks Frank....for your offer to send them , but I am sure you have better things to do!)
Thanks!
Marie~
and while we are at it....not one of these lights on my tanks tell me how long they are.. so....I measured, from the tube end, to tube
end, right? It is 17'...and all the dayum lights are 21, 24, 20 on line here.....but mine are 17'...So, I'm thinking i measured wrong?

Marie, what type of lights do you have? Fluorescent strips that came with your aquarium? If so, what brand are they?
Also, what site are you ordering from and what type of light/brand are you looking at?

Probably not. The lights are pretty selective on bulb selection. what kind of strip is it?

Square and straight pins cannot be crossed, I am assuming you are talking about power compact bulbs (bent in half). Measure from end to end (do not include the pins). You probably have a 16.5" bulb. If you are going to upgrade your bulb, make sure you have the correct ballast to drive the light. Here is where I purchase my power compact stuff:

Call they will hook you up.
Marie,
I think you are talking about power compact light, right? If so, square pin does not fit straight pin. PC light does provide significant brighter ligh than other light fixture. If your fish is red in color, a 6700K or 5000K lamp would be nice. For blue fish, a higher K is better. I personally like the 10000K as it is really very bright.
But, don't overdo it as discus don't loke super bright light.

Yep, I noticed my fish also like the dimmer light. Went from power compacts to flourescent and the fish like it. Plus, once you have your light colored background and floor all done, that will help with showing off their colors as they mature.:)

hmm....someone that wants to HELP... I think I am talking about ....what you are talking about...lol...I am not sure what you mean by bent in half, however~
Diablo~ when you say make sure I have the correct ballast to drive the light, I am guessing you mean if I put a higher wattage in than I have now, which is 17watts, enuff to see a dayum ant, it will short out? I will check out your link. I may have to buy a whole new hood?
Thank You Di~

Thank you so much for finding me at AOL and helping me on a dime... Even tho ya didnt!! j/k...lol! You took the time to search and I know you were at work...Your A Good Man Charlie Brown!
I have a plan, tho....wanna hear it? Prolly not but too bad....I will take the tubes with me, like you suggested, I did do this once before but every single light I brought back was no better...... I am going to go to one of the really nice lfs, where they have show tanks set up and pick one.... The brightest....Yep, that'll work~
Barb~ Thank you for your input, woman, as always... I have heard that as well...but then I have read post where people claim their discus didnt mind....go figure... Now with me, I will get a brighter light and along with that some new disease , 'discus light fungus syndrome' !!
Scans~ 'what kind of strip is it'? You are asking me? I have no idea....lol...It came with my 55gal from Topfin....does that help?
Marie~
I am going to go and play with my shapes NOW~http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_16_7.gif
