View Full Version : Feeding block?

I`m going to be away for two or three days. Do you think my 4 discus will be ok for that long or should I put one of those holiday feeding blocks in for them?
I`m not sure if they will like it but I suppose it will be better than nothing, as they are usually fed three times a day.
Unfortunately the person who was going to feed them for me can`t do it now.

Discus can go up to 2 or more weeks without eating with no permanent ill effects but if they eat good right now and have no problems, I would make my best effort to get someone to feed them so they stay on their schedule. Otherwise 2-3 days wont hurt (they might be a little upset with you). Do a good water change before you leave if you do put in a block so you dont come back to some foul water conditions. JMO

Julie, feed them lightly the day before you leave and do a water change before you go. They will be fine for a few days without food. The main thing is that you don't want your water quality to deteriorate. If you get those weekend feeders, they'll probably just dissolve in the water and make a mess. Your fish will be happy to see you when you get home :)

Do your normal water changes before you leave and just feed them when you are back.

Thanks for your replies. I don`t think I`ll bother with the block then as I don`t want to mess up my water, especially now I`ve got everything just right. Julie

Don't forget to turn off the light. Let them sleep for 3 days. Less activity.:)

I believe that most blocks are made with plaster of paris which would explain why it messes up your water....

Don't using feeding blocks. They get disgusting in the tank.
