Anyone paint there tank lately?,,,,Marie,,,did you ever paint your tank? How did it turn out and what color did you use. You are so good at smileys but we never see any pics anymore. Anyone want to paste some pics of some nice paint jobs so we can get some ideas??? Thanks! :D

I paint the outside back wall of my tanks, I use ordinary emulsion paint and usually go for a pale blue. I'm not too careful about trying to get a smooth even coat and usually put 2 coats on. When I sort my camera (or more like my photography skills!!) I'll post some pics.

Greetings Airman -

I've painted the bottom of my tank a blue very similar to this,

my background is solid black, one mistake was using latex paint, I bounced

the sponge filter off the bottom and chipped the paint, otherwise it looks

terrific..

Moon, you said you bounced the sponge off the bottom and chipped the paint... you did paint the outside of the tank, right?

Hey Moon~

Nice font! You said you dropped the sponge filter and it chipped the paint? How can you drop the filter on the outside bottom? Did you paint the inside? Can you do that?

I heard that latex is the best way to go as it peels right off when you tire of it~

Justin, you might want to take your fish out and put them into a bucket and get that paint out of there. It may make your fish sick over time.

p.s. Marie!!! Get to movin woman!!!

I think Marie gets to the tank with every intension of finally getting it painted,,,,,but then,,,, Mrs Pringles bats those little discus eyelashes and Marie forgets all about why she was there. Thats prolly why that tank still isnt painted. Thats ok Marie,,,,

I tore down my 75 and cleaned the whole thing and let it dry and I still couldnt bring myself to paint it. It is up against a wall in the back and I put a thin layer of gravel on the floor just to get rid of the BB look and keep the discus from hovering next to the bottom like they are ice skating.

Thanks Candy, I have

already scraped and repainted the tank

Did you keep it the same colors? What sorts of discus do you have? It's always interesting to see how the fish respond to darker backgrounds. Most people use lighter backgrounds to brighten the fish up and remove peppering, but you'd be surprised at how dramatic some discus look on a dark background.

Do you have any pictures?

Appreciate the inquiry Ryan -

Yes kept the same colors, blue, like this font, and solid black background, I

am cycling my aquarium now and making my first discus purchase in January.

Very Funny Ryan,,,, I just got lazy and didnt want to go down to hardware store, buy paint, hate the color, buy more paint, end up scraping it off, etc. Just went with the easy way out I guess. I knew thats what the paint was for, LOL. I already had the gravel so it was easy and I only put it in for looks,,,and dont worry,,,very thin layer,,you can still see the BB in alot of places,,,no crud buildup.

You guys are way too funny for sure! Moon, they broke the mold on you babe! You really painted the inside of your tank? And, you admitted here, in a public forum...Very cool! A man after my own heart! That would be something close to the time I was going to fill my new 55gal tank up, cuz I was excited. But I had not yet rec'vd the stand! http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_42.gif I almost started it too while it sat on my office floor....wow... No comments, Jack, JM, Ryan...I got that in check real quick, huh Candy?? I have decided to go a different route on the 55gal instead of painting....C, I told you about it already~

At our lfs they have this new stuff ( prolly is old, like me, but i never saw it before!) and it is much like the background paper that you get but you apply water and it sticks...they had a tank with it , an very cool blue, it looked so awesome! So i got some~

I tried black background thinking that would look great against the fish, but it didnt do anything for me~

So, for now, no paint for me~http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_2_48.gif But I did buy some already.....

Marie~
