Anyone keeping corys (corydoras) at 86F? I am looking for 3-5 corys for my 90 gallon tank, but don’t know what type of corys to get that can handle the temperature at 86F. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

corries do ok with discus.. I had a few of them in there too but i noticed they grow better in lower temperatures, this does not mean that they wont be happy...

How about Clown Loach for cleaning, are they better than corys?

I only have experience with the green. Have heard that pandas are OK, but not sure. These came from LFS

I found a website on loaches. They can handle water temperature range from 75-86 F (24-30 C).

Question: Clown Loach Vs. Corys, which one clean best?

I heard that Clown Loach can handle the heat, and can be in community tank (Discus). I think I’m going to pick some up later on today.

I have 4 panda cories and 4 clown loaches in my 110 with my discus
and they are all just fine, I actually got the loaches to control snails and
the cories 'cause they're so darn cute!

I had a heater malfunction a while back and practically cooked some clown loaches at about 100F. They came out ok.

I have kept Sterbai corys at that temp with no trouble. I also think they are among the best looking of the corries.

Sterbai corys are very nice. I guess most of the cories out there can handle up to 88F. I saw albino corys at my local pet store and I think they are very nice. I did not buy them because I think it will die at hot temperature. But after hearing so many successful stories about cories at hot temperature, I think I will buy albino and clown loaches for my 90 gallon tank.

Based on reference information and 1st/2nd hand info, MOST corys do NOT tolerate temps in the 80's well in the longterm. Check out the reference info on Planet Catfish ... here is a quote from one of the experts on Planet Catfish ...

"You should be fine with any Corydoras sp. naturally found alongside Discus. I would suggest any of the upper Rio Negro corys (C. adolfoi, C. burgessi, C. davidsandsi, C. imitator, et al) or upper Orinoco corys (C. delphax, C. ostecarus, etc). Just stay away from the llanos spp. and those from the upper Peruvian Amazon or Rio Napo areas.

My experience is that C. Sterbai do well long-term. I've been told by another discus breeder that C. Adolfi also do well.

I have a green cory, albino cory and a agassizi cory in my tank and they don't bother the discus at all and they do fine in the hot water.

I have 2 gold stripe wild corys from the Amazon area and they LOVE the high temp. I keep the tank at 86.5. They eat all that frozen brine shrimp and blood worms that the dang discus knock loose as they attacvk the feeding cone. Keeps the tank clean as a whistle! Also, they give the pidgeons a run for their money when eating the vegetable pellets.

My experience is that Clown loaches will do fine but they might get too agressive when its feeding time and take most of the food for themselves.
