I was wondering how do the naturals become blue diamonds turqs and the rest of not natural colors. How did they become what they are today.
Also when you have a pair that are not the same how do you know what color they will become and such. Is it healthy for you to mix or will the be ugly?

Do a search in the breeding section. There has been considerable discussion of discus genetics there.

A brief answer: all of the strains (even some that look fairly similar to wild discus) have been derived by using selective breeding practices.

The Blue Diamonds have a recessive gene that defines their color. Pigeon Blood genes are dominant. Red Turq genes are dominant to Blue Diamond genes.

Some mixes turn out good, some ok, and some pretty badly. Best not to mix a Pigeon Blood with any barred fish.

This is the very short answer. Much, much more discussion in the breeding section (check the stickies, etc.)

Yes, tons of information right here on simply discus. Check the sticky above, and use the little search tool on the bar at the top of the page. Really a nice thing, when you have a question.
