Anyone know if there is a natural sponge that you can get instead of the store bought ones??? How often do you guys replace your sponges?

Can you just clean them really well?

How do you clean those bio balls?

Thanks, Tami

BTW~~both sick fish still alive...little one ate last night...I sat with them for a couple hours...the big one looked like he was trying to rub against my hand like a cat...now I have bonded:( hope they make it!!

Oh one more question....how do I make my pics smaller so I can post them?

I've never used natural sponges. It seems to me that they would be more expensive with no real advantages in performance.

I squeeze my sponge and filter media out once every week or two. Prefilter sponges are rinsed every water change.

I would imagine that rinsing off bio-balls under warm, dechlorinated tap water or old tank would be the way to go.

I responded to your resizing question in your other thread.

Tami,

see http://forum.simplydiscus.com//showthread.php?t=38346 for your pics. Most lfs sell the right type of sponges but any manmade sponge should be ok provided they are not treated, so I would get them from the lfs or mail order from the web. Can't recommend a supplier over there sorry.

To clean bio balls, I basically dump them in a bucket of tank water and give them a good old stirring, then put em back.

Paul.
