I was contemplating building my own tank rack for my little "fish corner" but after hearing some people's comments on the Gorilla Racks I decided on one of those instead. So, I got one yesterday and set it up :D . My question is this: How do those boards that they use for the shelfs do with water? I tend to be sloppy from time to time and I don't want to cause damage. Should I treat the boards with some sort of water-proofing treatment before I plop a bunch of tanks on it?

Me, as paranoid as I am, probaby would coat them with something.

For something as perminant as they would be I wouldn't take any chances of water getting into the shelves and rotting over the course of a few years.

if they are pressed wood..i believe alot of people add or replace with real wood. or..maybe plasticize it.

Hi,

I like to put down 1/4" styrofoam board between my tank and the shelf...this helps keep the tank balanced and level things out.

I was lucky enough to find a gorilla rack with laminated shelves at costco instead of just bare particle board
