Do we have any Loach Experts here?

Cause I need some help Identifying these new guys I got. At the LFS they were listed as Zebra Loaches. I was actually looking for Kuhlis, but there were none so I selected these guys. They are very long and slender and I've got it narrowed down to either Burmese or Cherry finned. I have not seen them being very aggressive except when I drop food in and they chase away my tetras. Dont bother the discus tho.

Ok and the spawning help. On Sunday morning I was leaving for some starbucks MMMMMM, and as I was going by I saw the two larger of these guys twirling around together. It looked like all it could possibly be was spawning behavior. It was very cool and I watched them for a while until hubby kicked me out for coffee! (Butthead lol) They went under a rock for a while and I watched as best I could but couldn't see much. But something else I noticed is that while they were doing this, their color (the bands on them) went dark! Like there was just more emphasis on their colors... because usually they blend into the sand really well as you can see in the above pics. One went back to reg color, the other stayed a bit darker. I dont notice any gaurding.. but I dont know if they will do this. What is the typical spawning time/behavior of loaches?

Looks like my Zodiac loach to me. It deffinately is not a Zebra loach cause I have 6 of those but very hard to take a pic cause they move to fast :(

Since it looks from your picture it may have a red tail?

No.. definitely not a horse-faced. Those are unmistakable lol. As for the others I'm not sure. It looks so similar to many pictures I have seen now. :(

Kinda looks like my friends YoYo loach. The markings on the side spell the word yoyo.

The loach that you have is from what use to be the Noemacheilus genus. I believe that common name is banded sand loach (which appears to be what they call many species anymore.) Generally peaceful towards other fish and can become quarrelson with each other over territory (particularly a nice hidding spot.) In regards to your breeder question, anything is posible. I myself lucked into a breeder pair of L183 Blue Seamed Bristlenoses. Hope it helps.

There is a pretty decent book by Braz Walker that has some pretty decent pics and info on Sharks and Loaches. Title is, you guessed it, "Sharks and Loaches" LOL

Well well well, It seem I may be of some use to this forum.

Unfourtunatly my extensive knowledge on loaches only includes Botia loaches, which what you have is deffinately not a botia.
