Angie, I've sent you a few nice ones over the last couple of years. :) Lee is local and cherry picks the new shipments. Ken

Ken,
It's been some time since I last bought wilds from ya. I've been locally here in my state finding some nice imports at reasonable prices. Once things go better for me, I'll be back in swing but right now it is tight. ;)

I'm sorry guys but I'm going to have to delete this thread! I can't have people posting pictures of such fish here - its a respectable site you know!!

Ok so I'm jealous!!! That first one is absolutely stunning, very rare to get a fish of that quality, I'm amazed that Ken let it go - I'm damned sure I wouldn't have!!!

That is the most beautiful Discus I've ever seen. You are a lucky man!
Any chance you would like to send it to ?
Where did you get it ?

I do not know enough to tell you what the difeerence is between a curipera and an alenquer. I think Oliver at below water claimed to be the only one with curiperas. I think it's suppose to be close to the alenquer area and have extra red. Those two previous pictures I posted were alenquers I bought from Alberto at aquatechnics and they were about a third of what Oliver charges. Here is a picture of an alenquer I bought at a Miami wholesaler for next to nothing.

not sure why cost is being brought up...can you extrapalate, they are all from the Amazon:confused:
dollars should not be an issue when pics are involved, unless some organizations think it is necessary...I guess?
I only represent the wild discus I own with zero hidden agenda, sorry if you misunderstand.
BTW, they are all Browns or Heckels, unless you get into the spotted areas IMO.
The more intense red is an indicator of the females, which carry the "red" gene, no value of indication of the region.
Areas caught are the distinguishing diffs with the closest city or area prefixing the name of the discus ID.
Same breeder, different nets

The pictures of my fish in post #9 and in post #19 are both males. There was a question asking what is the difference between picture #9 and a curipera. I already said I don't know enough to give a good answer. If you have seen one of Oliver's price lists you would know why I mention price.

Curipera is supposedly a cut off lake from the main river that has redder fish and thus the higher price. I'm starting to see them show up on several price list out of Brazil at highly inflated prices. I don't know if more people are makeing the trek to this lake to collect or they are just trying to scam us in selling the redder Alenquer/Santarem types at a higher price. I get Alenquers in every shipement that are just as red at a fraction of what Curiperas sell for.

Hi all of you guys,

this is Heiko and I first of all wanted to give you all my very best compliment for these nice fishes and more than anything else that you give them the right name: Alenquer discus, because that is what they are. The region has an extent of more than 150 miles and is almost as deep and there are many lakes, rivers were thes Alenquer discus are collected from.

And I think it is almost not to believe, that there are still people talking about and where Curipera is...

You d...n right. All they do, is use this fantasy name, just to get a higher price. THERE IS NO SUCH LAKE IN THE ALENQUER REGION. And as fishfarms said correctly: You can have them from anywhere, there is no such place in this region – or anywhere in all of the discus distribution – a place were the discus are all red. Only in the head of (clever?, better corrupt?) people.

Alenquer I invented in the early 1970s and that is the name we all should stick to and forget all the other invented and fantasy names just to cheat people into paying more.

All the best and keep up posting nice Alenquer discus. I am leaving for japan, was invited to judge (Alenquer and other wilds) at their annual Japanese Discus Championships and also to hold some confereneces near Nagoya next week.

best regards from a collectors

I want to get some so bad it just sucks that Im so broke right now from going to school that I cant get any. I would have to say that as far as discus go I would have to say that they are the best looking off all of them. For some reason I rejoy the wilds better than all the different colors that man can make out of them. But if anyone has any extras that they dont have room for I always have a open tank that I can keep them in for you. Im even willing to take F1's, F2's, or even F20's it dont matter to me.
