help in selecting discus

hi guys,

i would like to know how to select discus ranging from 1.5 to 2.5 inches in order to obtain a higher percentage of females selected from the same brood?? and versa vice for males??? if i am selecting 8 from the batch how to select more females??? any suggestions???

Novice, I really think you are going to hit a brick wall here mate.

As Chompy said, at that age I dont think there is any way to tell. I'll let the experts jump in, but I am sure they will say the same thing. :)

No way to tell. select a cross section of large and med large, round, clear eyed discus that swim eagerly to front of tank and eat heartily.

Like rollin the dice! If you get 8 of the largest healthiest looking discus you will get a good mix of males and females.

There is no way to know at that age or even when they get bigger. You can watch a fish grow and think it is a certain sex and then it breeds and surprises you. Until they actually spawn do you know 100%

Or take me shopping with you, seems I always end up picking mostly females if left to my own devices. (but then I don't know if the ratio in those tanks were females before hand :)). But there is no sure way to tell at a young age. I've had fish that grew faster and I would have sworn were males until they laid eggs! LOL.
