Geeze.. sorry about the paper towel dust all over the glass. I guess I didn't do a good job. I had pop tart smashed all over the glass and was just trying to get it off... Ah the joys of kids lol. You should have seen me when my 4 yr old put stickers on my tank stand!!! lol

Amber,
I NEED that piece of driftwood!

It's a very nice looking tank Amber, clean, and the design is well thought out. I take it that it is your 125?

Amber,
Yes I really do like the driftwood... 50 bucks though??? Ouch!
<----- Would pay that much for it though

btw your fish look wondeful, nice and healthy and happy, and I really do like your layout, well... in all honesty it could use some more plants, but then, as you know, I'm a plant geek. <grin>

Amber, how much light do you have on that tank? It's just gorgeous! Love to see more pics as it grows and changes.

Amber, while everyone is fighting over the piece of driftwood (which is worth the money you paid), I would like to put dibs in for your female gold ram. I love the pinkish tinge she has for coloring.

And your plants have really taken off. They have really filled in. Good for you and your green aquathumb.

Keep us updated with pics of your two little kois. Wonder if they will ever catch up size wise to your first angel?!! He has sure grown since you got him, hasn't he?!

Amber,
Very very nice job! Pack it up and bring it to my house, then you do not have to choose who gets the driftwood LOL
Everything looks picture perfect ;)
I have a little gold ram just like yours :)
Only thing missing is my long fin corys :)

Thanks so much Debbie, Barb and Frank! :D

Debbie.. I am really not sure of the wattage.. the lighting is what came in the kit box so its got to be the lowest possible lol

Barb.. really I just stick the plants in and say "NOW GROW!" lol I think its more the fish than me cause I dont even fertilize lol. The gold ram is pretty isn't she :D I sooo need to get a male (or two) in there! And a few more females :D

Frank.. Some of those longfins would be awesome! I DID have some cory cats (Pandas) in there for a while with the discus. But I had a discus emergency.. and I needed to salt the tank.. I had no where however to move the cory's. I felt just awful about that.. well.. one was dead the next morning and the other three lasted a bit longer but slowly died. They looked awful. I guess I've been afraid to get more since because of that :( I had no QT tanks back then tho and was more concerned about the discus ya know?

So Amber, you are growing these plants with .5 watt/gal?? I am amazed and impressed. Does the tank get any indirect sunlight?

AmberC
07-20-2006, 04:33 PM
Thank you :D

Sometimes it does(get indirect sunlight), but most of the time I keep the front window covered because if I dont.. I get algae all over the sand and it was part of why I had green water before too and I SO do not want that coming back! lol

Hi Amber,

I must have missed some info

Are you? And if so, I would love to know how you do it because I would try it!! In fact I have about 1.2 wpg but couldn't make it work.

AmberC

Mikey,
I dont know if its .5 cause I haven't done the math because really it doesn't matter to me. I have had planted tanks before too and I never pay attention to the wattage. If I see a plant I like, I buy it. If it grows I keep it, if not then I stay away from it.

I have two 25 W bulbs on my tank. One on each side. So if that means .5w per gallon then that is what I do. I dont fertilize because I have had problems with that. The tank is in my living room, so if I open up the front window, the tank does get indirect sunlight just from being in the room. I do think that helps a little, but it also causes a lot of algae growth so I dont always open up the curtains.

Otherwise I do nothing but propogate, let the propogated pieces root by floating them in the tank and then plant them; and feed my fish. Fish waste fertilizes the plants. (Which i'm sure you know) and for me, this has always been enough.

I dont know what else I can say that can help you. This is all I do. I do not have the time or patience to do it any other way because my daughters just keep me to busy. I like to keep it simple, otherwise I'd probably have plastic.
