What a night for Altums
« on: Today at 05:07:05am »

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So I go on Aquabid and order 7 peruvian altums from DREALPHABETTA. Well they were suppose to be here last week and they couldn't get them on the flight from Peru. So I call him and he says the fish willl be in Seattle on the 27th at 8-10am. So I am expecting to get my fish before going to work and I get the call saying there's problems with the flight being. Well after the plane goes to Atlanta, and Houston it finally comes here to Seattle. The guy is at the airport waiting to clear customs and can't get a rental car to go from the fish and wildlife to the terminal. He calls my house, and I am at work, and talks to my son. He says if your Dad can help me tonight I will give him all the altums on the shipment. I wanted to leave work asap but work in a prison so they said NNNOOOOO!!! Iwas waiting for the night to end and at 10pm I went flying down the highway(50 miles away) to the airport to meet this guy.I get to the Terminal at 1045 and we go to Continental cargo where I help the guy load 28 boxes into my truck. We made 3 stops at shipping company's and unloaded and did the paperwork for the boxes. I received 30 altums instead of 7. What a deal. Despite the stress of wondering if my fish were alive after being in the bags(only 2 for 30 fish). My poor fish were hurting. I decided to do the drop in the tank method due to the stench from the boxes and only one fish looks bad. Fins are tore up pretty good. Well to top it off he didn't have enough money to pay for the whole order of fish which was 46 boxes so I paid his extra $25. Two of his boxes of fish with various fish from Peru were not accepted at the 4th delivery company and they are sitting in my front room waiting for DHL to pick them up. I told him I would wait until 3pm and if DHL were not here I would not let the fish die, he agreed and said I could keep them if DHL did not arrive by 3. The guys name is Andre and he was nice but it just seemed like everything was going against him with this shipment. He thanked me and I dropped him off at the airport where he said he would fly home to Spokane in the morning. Just a crazy night.

That was quite an experience you went through. How did you connect with this unfortunate importer. I am interested for several reasons. I have been trying to buy 12 altums for a while now and deal after deal have fallen through. One wanted some money so he could go get some... sound like another kind of business that isn't topical. Also I live in SE Washington where I am running a small scale wholesale/retail breeding operation but I'm really just another fishman out of control. I have specialised in wild discus breeding for 40 years and also keep some domesticated forms. I prefer wild fish and am growing up some nice Heckels(10) for future breeders. I have been close with a pair many years ago. They were cleaning a site for a couple of months when outside events prevented me from continuing with them and they were sold.
You and others discus/wild angel lovers are welcome to contact me about your fish problems and successes. I've already been there and have some "tricks up my sleeves" that I share. I enjoy helping other people succeed as much as my own.

I got my Altums from Oliver at Belowwater. Good quality at reasonable price and delivered on time. He is located in Montreal and ships worldwide.

Hi Red Checker,
I have since your experience met the importer(as you know) PITA but you have a bunch of "altums" the part I'm still unsure of since the shipment originated in Peru if they are "altums" must have been brought in from Colombia. Are you decided whether they are Orinoco altums or "Peru altums"?
Just curious
