Hey lookie what I just found!! At first I thought it was salt ....sure looks like it ~ but I never added it of course! They obviously won't hatch but will they just 'blow' away? I was snapping pics of this new substrate in this tank and I never noticed it in all the pics .... I don't think it was there when I started taking the pictures tho~

How Kool Yes? This is the first for me:o

Me too!! Ram eggs sis!!!! What else is in there??? The rams will most likely keep the discus away. But if there are other rams, they will prolly get eaten. Hope they stick around long enough to get freeswimming though!!!!

Way to go GRANDMOM!!!!

Actually my discus don't even notice the Rams eggs, but EVERYONE else does, the cories, plecos, and clown loaches all line up just waiting for them to finish. <sigh>

Sis,

They can survive if you dont have any other rams. They will take the freeswiimers inside the cave. They like to lay on flat surfaces, or dig a hole in the substrate.

Seems they are telling you they like their new digs!!!! My rams eventually ate the eggs. Like other kinds of fish, it usually takes some time for them to learn how to care for them. But you are on your way!!

And they get mean when they are in the family way, so to speak. They are cichlids!

Now's the time to move the other rams to another tank; see how just the pair does by themselves and the discus. :D

And maybe the two of them being so mean, they could turn out to be awesome parents.

Hi Marie - just got home friend...got your message of course;) thanks for sharing your eggs with me LOL...

Marie, I don't know if it's because of the pics or not(probably not I think), but it looks like that batch of eggs might have been laid for some time and they've been fungused or something(see the white stuff?) Regardless now that "love is in the air" if this batch doesn't make it you should see another one in a few days. No biggies!;)

Congratulation on being now a rams breeder & later a discus breeder LOL! Get yourself as many tanks as your office space would allow!:D

VERY cool Marie! Sorry I was so late on this hun. Brett got home and had to fix the issues with the spyware sh!t that popped up and then we were all playing in the pool. No they wont just blow away :D They are sticky. Sometimes one or two can get bumped out by parents cleaning the nest up. BTW.. they just might hatch! You never know! :)

Congrats woman!

Marie, they may need a little more time before they get comfortable in their new surroundings. Sometimes it takeas a while. Remember when you first got them you were probably advised to drop a little food in each time you went by, it still is one of the best tricks to get them settled. My red leopard female always hides, always has done, unless she has eggs or fry, then she just attacks me :) I still drop a bit of food in as I pass, she comes out to eat it, shame really as she is a lovely fish.

Okay I will give them more time before I ask for assistance:) I do give them a lil snack when i pass by too!

Np Amber! The eggs are still there:D

Hey Loverboy!! You are good!! Those eggs do look fungused!! Never fear Marie, there will be more. My rams are the MOST EVIL CICHLID I've ever owned. They'll take on a full grown Discus and WIN!! I've never had parent raisers though. They ALWAYS eat their eggs, buggars, even if they are in their own 20 gallon. I've had 5 breeding pairs and no go on the parent raisers. Gotta love the beauties anyway!!

No Marie. They wont move the eggs into the cave. They herd the freeswimmers in there, or corners, to help keep an eye on them and make it easier to protect them. They are fun to watch!

The fry will be too small to eat BBshrimp at first. They will need micro worms or something very small like that for a week or two.

My rams are the MOST EVIL CICHLID I've ever owned.

But then again I've only owned Rams, Angels and Discus!! LOL

No, you have not see any pic's from me as of yet. I can't seem to get a clear shot. They move to quick for me. Maybe it's my camera, not sure.
I will try to get some soon. So, you actually had little babies and they grew up?? I have one male & one female. All he does is chase her around. I added a pot and a flat rock to see what happens. Keeping my fingers crossed:grin:

No Treasa I have never had babies! Only the eggs ~ The females in my three pairs are very small ~ but mean!

I just remember that this picture I post just now was entered in a contest on my African site and now I have to withdraw....one of the rules...The pic you enter can not be posted anywhere else:( :( :(

OOOOoooHH NO.. :noway: I am sorry to hear that. All though I am sure you have more great pic's to replace that one. Are the discus eating the eggs or the rams themselves? Or are they just not making it on there own?

09-04-2006, 08:52 PM
I have absolutely no idea Teresa! lol! I just noticed one day what looked like a pile of salt sprinkled on top of the clay cave thingy ~ upon closer look I see it was eggs and they were having a fit if any discus came close!

They were white so it was my understanding that if they turn white ...that is fungus and not a good thing~

I do have an African holding tho! I have put her in her own ten gal a few days ago and soon she will spit!! Then I will have baby Solocolfi!!

No idea what I am going to do with them all tho:p

Good luck getting Ram eggs to hatch. I've seen them many times but they are only around for a day. I was going to try a cave and/or 10 gallon tank but this thread makes me doubt those options. What is the best hope?
