Well, my tank broke, so now im shopping for a new tank, and i found an add for this great tank! 75gal cube, dimensions are 30"x 24"x 24".

Now i know the 10gal rule, but this tank is'nt amazing for territories...

Might be harder for the fish too hide in such a tank?...

It's either that, or a conventional 75gal or 90gal (depending wich i find...), could even go for a 60 (found a sweet one...)

What are your suggestions?

I think you should strongly consider the 90 gallon tank. Discus get big and need to be kept in groups of at least four or five since they are schooling fish.

Good luck with your new tank and keep us updated on it.

I think taller tanks are not as good for discus. Most discus hang out in the middle or bottom of the tank so it's best to have more width and length on your tank.

I agree .. go with width and height. That tank would make a nice breeder tank IMO

So i found out that, after all, what i though was a crack inside the glass, is simply a big scratch on the bottom... wich is tempered... and it isnt deep...

so im setting up the tank this week! (fixing the stand first.... looks awefull)

im going to look for a substrate, then im filling it with some nice plants...

then once im done with the cycle (il be using media from another tank)... im getting a few algae eaters (green phantom pleco) and corys... 8 rummys (or cardinals... dunno yet!) and 2 german blue rams...

in about 6-8 weeks il be getting 5-6 discus! :D

im really happy!

Not sure yet if il get some Wilds or not... probably not... depends on what i find!

keep you all posted!

Bruno

oh...anybody kept black phantom tetras with discus?

can they withstand the temperature?

First off, the tank is just under 75 gallons, not 80 (30*24*24/231=74.805 so it actually holds around 70 gallons if kept BB. I think that's a fine size, discus do not need a lot of swimming space. Depending on your wc schedule you could easily keep 10 in there as long as you were religous about wc's. I am assuming you are going to start with young discus, there are far too many posts about this already on this site but briefly, raising discus in a tank with a substrate is a VERY poor idea. Leave it BB until they are grown. btw Bill Egan, who posted above, has some great deals on discus, including wilds. All excellent fish in excellent health.

After all, il be using my tank, wich i previously though was broken (after further inspection; with a razor blade, lmao... dunno why i didnt check it first)

The tank dimensions are : 48 x 18 x 18 = so it holds about 67gallons...

Now i have read pretty much every thread on the subject

Im stil debatting getting the discus first and growing them out... or buying young adults, or even wilds ( i will if i find what's right)

I have a good source for discus, and everything really... il be paying him a visit this week to see what he has in stock... if he doesnt have everything i want, il get some younger fish and grow them out first...

then once they are adults, tear everything down and scape it...

keep you posted

Don't worry about getting a tall tank. Discus don't tend to swim back and forth quickly. They like to swim up and down a lot though.
