eheim 2227/2229

Ive been thinking about getting an Eheim 2227 or 2229, any opinions would be very welcome...:confused:

I have an eheim wet/dry canister that is almost 11 years old and still running strong with the original media!

I've had my Eheim 2227 for about 5 years now. It works great. Things to think about are -

1. Its a bio filter not mechnical filter. I believe I killed the good bacteria once when I over cleaned the filter. I only clean it once every 2 months now.

2. When you do clean it, you need to clean out the hoses. Not really a big deal but you take the hoses off the tank and use the brush that comes with it. Just more work than a hang on the back filter.

3. The water movement turns from a trickle to a hard spray(wet dry action). I find until the Discus get use to it, it startles them.
