I've seen some nice tanks done using manzanita branches littered over the substrate and I really like the look of this. Anyone have some info on a good source to acquire some, preferably in Canada or I will pay for shipping from US. I'm assuming it has to be sandblasted and soaked (to become waterlogged) before placing in the tank. Any info appreciated.

BlueRam, try your pet shops that carry large birds.

Here ya go. It does need to be water logged for a few weeks though unless you can tie them together they way you want them displayed. Then weigh them down with something.

Do you know if those burl pieces retain that nice reddish color under water?

This will give you an idea of what it looks like in a tank. These are just twigs though an havent been sand blasted.

I imagine you can call Manzanita an ask them not to blast them. These I believe were blasted, an wont have the redish color.

Mark-

Those are some great links! The wood is fabulous and the threads are interesting to follow. Sounds like a quality supplier.

Sandblasted and attached to terra cotta tiles. These branches came from manzanita.com.....DC

BASTALKER - thank you for the info. I have ordered a package of burls & branches from Manzanita.com. Can't wait to see it. Will probably cost a fortune to ship but you can never spend too much money on your tanks!!

Yes, it's the standard perch material for parrots and macaws. It's hard enough that macaws won't destroy it the same day it's installed. ;)

I met a pair of hyacinth macaws that beg to differ with that statement;) not even the $10,000 cage they were being housed in lasted more than two weeks with out needing to be replaced and fixed
