Downloading problems

I don't know if this is the right spot to post, but I have been finding it extremely difficult to download links or threads and virtually impossible to do searches the last couple of days. It took several efforts to pm this am. I have no trouble with SD at work, and I have no trouble accessing information in other forums or sites from this computer. I have high-speed dial-up and my Norton anti-virus is painfully out of date. Any ideas? Martha

Martha, I would think that the problem is on your home pc, I would get an up to date virus scanner and do a full scan and also an upto date malware/adware scanner (like adaware) and do a full scan. Check out the Useful links section there are a number of good utilities listed there and most are free too!

I downloaded Ad-Aware SE personal, AVG Anti-Spyware, AVG anti-virus and Spybot and the problem is still here. Right before the download is dropped the search address at the bottom changes to: downloading pictures http:// forum.simplydiscus.com/banners/international_ad_sm.gif. Is that normal? I never noticed it before. I have absolutely no problems in my e-mail. It took quite some effort to get in to write this and I am stumped. Martha

Martha, do you get the same downloading issues on other sites or just on SD??

Oh and the addy at the bottom is just where its pulling the image for one of the banners from, normally you wouldn't see it 'cos it would be too quick, or cached. Which browser are you using too?

I do, unfurtunately for me it all started with the virus! But it started identical to what you are saying. Hopefully this weekend someone is going to pick my computer up to fix it!

One of each, seriously!!!
Just this moring W32.Grum.A,
others Adware.MoneyGainer, Hacktool.Spammer, TRojan.Dropper, Tojan.Zonebac, Downloaders, Dialers and a million intrusion attempts by other computers
All of this supposedly resolved by an Antivirus, yet I keep getting my browser highjack and pop ups, who know what it still has

Ed, I don’t know what you mean. I hope when you find out what your issue was, you'll post it here. Well, mine suddenly started working just fine! We'll see how long that lasts. I discovered a few minutes ago that the download wasn't really being dropped. If I waited, the green bars would begin again on their own. Then they would be dropped, and eventually they would begin again. Now its working. I certainly hope its not a virus. Viruses get 10 percent bleach solution at my house!:whip: Martha

Thanks Paul. The program didn't catch anything new but then things appear fine right now. It's nice to have it downloaded though. Martha
