I current have 5 disucs...all close to 2 inches, two blue turquoise and tthree red Turquoise. I am thinking of adding a Blue diamond or a cobolt blue variety to make it six. Is that too many fish in my 40 breeder tank with an emperor 400 filter and a big pot of amazon plant in the middle of the tank? I do about 40-50% water change everyday. The water readings are fine. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thanks mike

It really depends on your wc routine. You would probably be fine until they reached 4"+ size. As long as you do at least a 50% wc a day you might be ok then at the larger size. Make sure you QT your new fish before adding to the 40 gal tank!

40 breeders filled to the top hold about 48 gallons of water. 5 fish in a tank this size will be fine as long as you keep you water quality good like Angela mentioned. I have raised 10 in a 40 breeder up to 3.5 - 4.5 inch size. Then I split the group into two of 5 fish each with no problems.

Thanks for your advice. Now I am free to go and fulfill my wishes...a blue cobolt, a red mellon, a snake skin etc etc etc. Just kidding. mike:D

The 40 gal are nice because they have more surface area than the common 55 and yet still have some height discus enjoy. Good starter tank.
