which do you consider to be bettor for a 35 hex with gravel?

They both do different things, the cory is good for cleaning up the bottom, the Pleco is better for cleaning the algae. You might even consider a clown Pleco, they do no grow as big, and are less of a threat to your Discus.

I would go with both like Tom said they perform different tasks. My BNs keep the tank walls pretty clean while the cories run around on the bottom searching

i dont want to overcrowd my tank, so i thought i would choose either a bn pleco OR a couple cories. Besides the algae, would the pleco also clean up uneaten food?

bristlenose or bushynose. Its ancistrus sp 3 I think.

Midozolam has the name correct for the common bushy nose pleco. It's exact origins are obscure but it is by far the best of the plecos to keep with discus. Nothing against clowns but they don't come close to the effectiveness of BN plecos, they hide more than BN and as Panaque species, Panaque maccus, they are one of the specialized wood eating plecos rather than algae eaters.
