Nice to see this section. I live in Ohio and we lose power 3 to 5 times a year. Not a big problem untill I bought these high$ heat loving fish!
I have a battery with an inverter with a trickle charger near my Discus tanks. Our local power company provided me with an opertunity to test my setup a couple of weeks ago. The outage was only 1 1/2 hours but everything worked fine.
I also has several portable propane heaters to help keep things warm. Don T.

My dear son was tired of my flipping out when the power went out so he got me this massive generator for my fish.:) Being kind hearted as I am I even let hubbie plug his tv in. I think a generator is a necessity to a fishkeeper.

You raised him right!!! :D And I'm sure your hubby appreciated you sharing that outlet for his TV ;) Just remind him of your generosity when it's time to buy another tank and more fish :antlers:

Don,

I have 14 tanks total but only 3 with discus. In the living room I have a 75 with 8 discus and a 55 with 5 severum. In an upstairs bedroom I hav 3 29's( 2 have discus, one will have eventualy), 2 20's( angels), 1 15(empty), 2 10's( hatchets, tiger barbs rasbora etc.), 1 5g (sick tank for small fish) and 2 21/2g betta tanks (5 male bettas). In our bedroom is 1 10g that has fish my wife likes in it.
I have a 800 watt inverter upstairs in th room with all the tanks. I have a 400w inverter for the 75 downstairs. Both are sitting near the tanks with a 115 amp hour battery and a small automatic charger. I have 2 extra battery's on the back porch.

Your house sounds like mine with tanks in every room. :D

I use inverters on mine too, thats what I was gonna suggest to you but I see you are already doing it.

Thanks Scott; I also have a 1500w generator but going out in the cold to refuel it, start it ( 2 pulls) and temperary wireing are not fun. I will do it if all other opions fail but not my 1st choice.
We also have 2 portable LP heaters ( they take the 1.16 lb tanks) and a kerosene heater to help keep the house warm and save a little battery energy by not having to use the tank heaters as much.
We have natural gas heat so I am considering a ventless heater.
Each year I try to be a little better prepaired. Don T.
