Need some advice.

Will be constructing a new stand for four 72 gallons tanks like
Dan's fish room project (Elite Aquaria) reply #30.
Any idea what the weight will be for each shelf. The person in the
hardware store will ask me the weight and I have no clue.

Many thanks
Francis

Well a gallon of water weighs 10 lbs so 2880 lbs for 4 , 72 gallon tanks plus the weight of the glass

Thats an US gallon every things bigger in Canada!

1 U.S. Gallon = 0.83267 Canadian (Imperial) Gallons
1 Can Gallon = 1.201 U.S. Gallons
1 U.S. Gallon = 3.785 Liters

Very true.. but it's probably safer to calculate the weight of water per gallon as 10 pounds per gallon to account for things like substrate etc. (if they're going to be used). Better to be safe than sorry. An easy way to convert US gallons into Imperial is to multiply by .8.

I think that you'll find that all aquariums are sized and rated in US gallons, including Hagens. This is why you'll see this kind of measurement on Hagens web site

Hagen All Glass Aquarium-10mm Glass-182.5 L (48.3 U.S. gal.)

A 182 litres is on about 40 UK/Canadian gallons

So base the weight on US volumes plus tank weight...........adding substrate displaces water so don't count gravel/rock weight

Just out of interest, does anyone know the suare foot weight of the different thicknesses of glass ? It can add a hell of a lot to the weight.

Interesting....I didn't know that things are bigger in Canada....what else is bigger?

Now that I have the basic idea and the next step is to look for a
carpenter to build the stand for me as I am no handyman and also
no tools in my house.
